Why we started? 📎
Our small team—a developer, a manager, and me—shared a common frustration: reading digital books often required switching between apps to look up words, research concepts, or find related content. We wanted a solution that would keep readers fully engaged while giving them instant access to AI-powered insights and smart features. So, we set out to design an app that blends the convenience of technology with the immersive experience of traditional reading.
⛔ Problem
Readers often encounter unfamiliar words, complex concepts, or references they want to explore further. However, switching between apps for explanations, translations, or additional content disrupts the reading flow. There’s a need for a seamless, AI-enhanced reading experience that keeps users engaged while providing instant knowledge.
✅ Solution
We designed an intuitive reading app that integrates AI-driven explanations, multimedia content, and smart syncing features. Users can instantly ask AI for definitions, search Google, or access relevant videos and articles—all within the app. With audiobook mode, reading progress tracking, and the ability to sync with physical books, the app transforms reading into a smooth, uninterrupted journey.
User Research Summary 🔎
Through user interviews and surveys, I discovered that digital readers often get frustrated when they have to pause their reading to look up information. Many also switch between formats, preferring to read at home but listen to audiobooks on the go. Our research validated the need for an AI-powered tool that keeps users immersed in their books while providing instant, contextual assistance.
What I learned? 🌱

Working on this project reinforced the importance of balancing functionality with simplicity. While AI-powered features can significantly enhance the reading experience, too many options can overwhelm users.

 

Designing intuitive interactions was key to ensuring that AI assistance felt like a natural extension of the reading process rather than a distraction.

 

I also gained valuable insights into user behavior—readers don’t just consume books, they engage with them in different ways. Some prefer deep research, while others just want quick explanations.

 

Understanding these varying needs helped me create a flexible, adaptable experience that caters to different reading styles.

 

Finally, collaborating with a small team taught me the power of clear communication and iteration. From refining the user flow to testing AI interactions, every decision had to be intentional, ensuring that technology complemented the reading experience rather than complicating it.
